do you think 'baby brain' is a real symptom of pregnancy? If so, what makes the short memory so poor at this time. Nutritional deficiencies?
What herbs etc would you suggest to counter 'baby brain'?
thank you
There is evidence that momnesia ("pregnancy brain") is a real condition, but no consensus on the cause. In my opinion the problem is likely from the shift in hormones leading to suppression of the thyroid. There is an increase of estrogen during pregnancy, and higher levels of estrogen can suppress the thyroid that in turn can adversely affect memory.
There is not many herbs I wold recommend during pregnancy. A few that can help though are nettle leaf, which supports the thyroid and is a good source of B vitamins for one. Pollen is also excellent as long as you are not allergic. Pollen is also high in B vitamins the liver uses to break down excess estrogen. For the same reason B vitamin supplements can also help.
