How Can I Get Off HRT?
Hi James,

I have referenced your article:

http://medcapsules.com/info/Hormone_Balance.htm

Great info! However, I have had a total hysterectomy, so it's not just about balancing my hormones. I would love to get off my hormones. I took Premarine for years, then went to bio-identicals, and am now on Vivelle Dot .1. It's estradiol. I am doing fine on it, but I get sick of 1. patches, 2. doctors, and 3. the expense.

I am really scared of the unknown. I am 50 years old in two weeks. Am I jumping the gun trying to get off hormones? What can I do to give myself the same dose I am getting with the patch? I really hate hot flashes. I don't want to harm myself either.

Thanks for your help,
Gwynn

It does not matter if you had a hysterectomy or not. Your body is still producing the same hormones. After natural or surgical menopause the adrenals become the primary site of hormone production followed by fat cells and various other tissues such as the brain and bone. Look at women going through menopause in Japan that are on a traditional Japanese diet. They do not go through the menopausal symptoms that American women do on the typical American diet. When the Japanese women go on the average American diet though they develop the same menopausal symptoms as American women. The difference is that the typical Japanese diet is rich in phytoestrogens, which are derived from plants. Although phytoestrogens are goitrogenic, but this effect is countered by iodine. Seaweeds are a good source of both. But a diet richer in plants and very little in the way of meats and dairy is a good start.

There are also various plants that help prevent hot flashes such a motherwort and black cohosh.

It is also very important to support the adrenals since they are a primary hormone source at the moment:

You cannot go off of hormone therapy suddenly. You need to slowly reduce the levels.
